Jailbreak iPhove v2.1: QuickPwn 1.1 and Pwnage 2.1 released!

Η Dev Team έδωσε σε κυκλοφορία τα PwnageTool 2.1 for Mac OS X και QuickPwn 1.1 for Mac OS X!

Ο πλέον εύκολος τρόπος για να κάνετε Jailbreak το iPhone σας παραμένει το QuickPwn ενώ με το PwnageTool μπορείτε να δημιουργήσετε μία Custom v2.1 firmware.

iPhone firmware v2.1 released!

Η iPhone firmware v2.1 έγινε διαθέσιμη για download μέσω του iTunes! Το μεγέθους 237.8MB update προσφέρει σύμφωνα με την Apple:

* Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls
* Significantly better battery life for most users
* Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
* Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
* Faster installation of 3rd party applications
* Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications

* Improved performance in text messaging
* Faster loading and searching of contacts
* Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
* Repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
* Option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
* Genius playlist creation

αλλά και μερικά ακόμη features τα οποία δεν είναι documented και τα οποία ανακαλύπτουμε σιγά σιγά μετά την αναβάθμιση:

- Όταν αναβαθμίζεται ένα app μέσω του iTunes, το εικονίδιο ΔΕΝ αλλάζει θέση! Παραμένει στη θέση που είχε στο Sprinboard αντί να μεταφέρεται στην αρχική Homescreen!

- Ο χώρος τον οποίο καταλαμβάνουν τα apps πλέον εμφανίζεται στο iTunes usage bar με πράσινο χρώμα!

Zibri is not rushing…

Είχαμε καιρό να ακούσουμε νέα του… ας δούμε το τελευταίο post του Zibri στο οποίο μας δηλώνει μεταξύ άλλων πως ανακάλυψε ένα νέο exploitable bug το οποίο εμφανίζεται και στην v2.1:

Since I received many requests for updates,
here you have a few:

At the moment I’m testing and tweaking what could be
the next ZiPhone version.

As it happened the first time, I’m not rushing and
as it already happened in february I’m not even sure I
will release it.

As of now, my own iPhone is on 1.1.4 (and happy to be).
My test iPhone is on 2.0.1.
My iPod is on 2.1 (unmodified).

I’m also working on a few other things:

I just found something that can crash any iphone/ipod
and exploitability is being investigated.
This vulnerability anyhow affects all models and firmwares.
I can’t tell you more about this.

Since this bug is VERY serious I have yet to decide what to do with it.
If Apple is interested I think they know my email address.
If they are not… well they will know sooner or later.

Anyhow, the ZiPhone “proof of concept” I’m using had no problems with
the new iTunes 8 release. And the bug I found works on 2.1 too.

Dev Team countermeasures on iTunes 8

Το παιχνίδι της γάτας με το ποντίκι ανάμεσσα στην Dev Team και στην Apple συνεχίζεται με την Apple να κερδίζει μία (πολύ) μικρή μάχη:

… But one way they can try to combat Pwnage for existing hardware is to program iTunes to detect and prevent the Pwnage exploit. In fact, they’ve already done that in iTunes 8. The screenshot below from iTunes 8 using a Pwned ipsw (with an unPwned device attached) is one example:

Η απάντηση της Dev Team στο iTunes 8 ήταν άμεση:

The nice thing about iTunes decisions is that we can provide you with patches to counter them. We have one such patch already for Mac iTunes 8 for iPod touch. We’ll be working out the full suite of patches for all the combinations over the next week.

Σύμφωνα πάντως με την Dev Team οι ήδη Pwned συσκευές δεν αντιμετωπίζουν κανένα πρόβλημα:

Already pwned devices are no problem.

It’s only when you try to restore to an ipwned ipsw from a non-ipwned device that iTunes 8 starts to try to get in your way.

Μία προτεινόμενη λύση για όσους έχουν το iTunes 8 και θέλουν να κάνουν Jailbreak το iPhone τους είναι να χρησιμοποιήσουν το QuickPwn ώστε να κάνουν Pwn το iPhone και στην συνέχεια, εφόσον το επιθυμούν, να κάνουν Restore μία custom ipsw από το iTunes 8.

Ανακεφαλαιώνοντας:

Για iPhone 3G τα οποία είναι αγορασμένα από Vodafone Greece (unlocked) το QuickPwn αρκεί!

Τα iPhone 1st gen πρέπει πρώτα να γίνουν Pwn μέσω του QuickPwn και στη συνέχεια να γίνει Restore με custom ipsw από το iTunes 8!

Disable iPhone’s autocorrection WITHOUT Jailbreak!

Η μέθοδος στηρίζεται στο ότι το auto-correct, δεν λειτουργεί εάν πληκτρολογείς μπροστά από έναν χαρακτήρα! Στην ουσία δεν το απενεργοποιούμε αλλά το ξεγελάμε ώστε να μην λειτουργεί!

Εισάγετε ένα γράμμα (π.χ. Q) και μετακινήστε τον κέρσορα (με το μεγενθυντικό φακό) πίσω ακριβώς από το γράμμα. Τώρα μπορείτε να γράψετε ότι θέλετε χωρίς λειτουργεί το autocorrection!

Απλά θυμηθείτε στο τέλος να σβήσετε το Q

iTunes 8 don’t like Vista

Εάν έχετε εγκατεστημένα τα Vista (32-bit ή 64-bit) στο PC σας, MHN προχωρήσετε στην αναβάθμιση του iTunes 8!

Υπάρχει μεγάλο πρόβλημα συμβατότητας, με πολλούς χρήστες Vista να αναφέρουν BSOD (blue screen of death ) λόγου του iTunes 8, μόλις συνδέουν το iPhone ή το iPod Touch τους!

Οι λύσεις μέχρι στιγμής (και μέχρι να κυκλοφορήσει ένα official update το οποίο θα διορθώσει τα bugs) είναι οι εξής:

- Απεγκατάσταση του iTunes 8 και εγκατάσταση του 7.7

- Πλήρης απεγκατάσταση του iTunes 7.7 και εγκατάσταση του iTunes 8
